The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes

General

The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) are demand oriented programmes designed to foster institutional development. To maximize the fellowships’ impact on capacity-building, NFP funded training must be linked to the institutional development of organizations. A wide range of organizations are eligible – governmental, private and non-governmental.

The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the budget for development cooperation. Until the end of 2008 the programmes will be administered by the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education (Nuffic). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will decide in the second half of 2008 which organization will be responsible for the administration in 2009.

Target group

The NFP target group consists of mid-career professionals who are already in employment and who are nationals of and working in one of the selected countries (one of them being Egypt). While fellowships are awarded to individuals, the need for training must occur within the context of the organization for which an applicant works. The training must help the organization to develop its capacity. This means that applicants must be nominated by their employers. In fact, an application without the support of an employer will not be considered.

NFP sub-programmes
The NFP offers the following options:
Individual fellowships for:
Externe link short courses;
Externe link master’s degree programmes ;
Externe link PhD studies.

Group training:

Externe link refresher courses.

Applying for NFP

PhD degrees can be pursued at 21 Dutch universities and institutes for international education. A list of these universities and institutes and other relevant information can be found in the NFP brochure 2009 or on the Nuffic website.

Applicants for master’s degree programmes or short courses must first gain academic admission to the course of their choice before applying for a fellowship through the Netherlands embassy or consulate in their country. Also, they can only apply for an NFP fellowship if the course is on the NFP course list for that particular year.

In all cases, applicants are advised to contact the Netherlands embassy well in advance for specific instructions, and to inquire about specific local procedures and deadlines, requirements and selection criteria. These may differ from the general information provided on the Nuffic’s website or in the brochures. Application forms for fellowships can be submitted every Tuesday from 10:00-11:00 am.
