A Dutch passport has a validity of 5 years after issuance and is valid for travel to all countries of the world. If you are travelling to countries outside the European Union, please be aware that you might need a visa to enter the country concerned. The country of destination may require a certain validity of your passport (e.g validity should be at least 3 or 6 months)
A Dutch passport remains property of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Proof of identity is the main purpose of a Dutch passport.
Applications for a Dutch passport should be presented IN PERSON.

As of the 26th of August 2006 passport extensions are NO longer possible.

Minors under 18
Parents who want to add children younger than 16 to their passport(s)
Adults, age 18 or older, who apply for a Dutch passport for the first time, are requested to contact the Embassy in Cairo to discuss their procedures.
Persons who obtained the Dutch nationality through naturalisation and want to apply for their first passport, should apply at the local authorities (gemeente) in the Netherlands.
Requirements
Original (Egyptian) birthcertificate, legalised by the Egyptian Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Embassy in Cairo and translated. If you have an Egyptian computerized birth certificate, please have an act of name issued before applying for a Dutch passport. Adding children
Requirements
Children of any age can have their own passport. Until the age of 16, the child(ren) can also be added to the passport(s) of the parent(s). The rule is: ‘OR/OR: or the child can have a passport of its own, or it can be added to the passport(s) of the parent(s). ‘AND/AND’ is not possible.

If your marital status has changed (e.g. marriage, divorce etc.) and you would like to have the name of your (previous) partner added to or removed from your passport, you have to submit the official papers concerned (marriage contract, divorce papers).
The minor should apply in person and accompagnied by both parents. If the parent with the Dutch nationality lives abroad/has residence in the Netherlands, the parental consent can be given by a signed and stamped consent form (gemeente) with legalised signature.
If your previous passport was not issued at the Embassy in Cairo, the Embassy may require additonal documents (naturalisation paper, birthcertificate etc.)

In case of theft or loss.
A police report legalised by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and translated in English by a certified translator, should be submitted
At the Embassy the so-called C2-form (own statement) should be filled out and signed.
If available, other (travel- and/or) identification documents (driving license is not an accepted identification document)
If it’s not possible to identify yourself, the Embassy will verify your identity with the Civil Registry in the Netherlands
An emergency passport for minors, both parents and the minor have to be present. Both parents have to sign the application form. In case parents are divorced, proof should be submitted of sole custody. If the parent who has the Dutch nationality lives abroad/has residence in the Netherlands, the parental consent can be given by a signed and stamped consent form (gemeente) with legalised signature.
Important
Please note that legalisation and translation is required for all certificates issued outside the Netherlands.
