Egypt now open for Dutch heifers
Recently, a certificate under which the Netherlands can export heifers for the dairy industry in Egypt, has been discussed with and approved by the Egyptian competent authorities. This means that since more than a decade Dutch cattle can be imported again. Dutch heifers, and heifers from other EU countries, have been banned in the late ’90s for reasons of BSE. Now that the market is open, it is expected that many of the Egyptian dairy companies will import from the Netherlands again, as was the case before the ban.
